Facing down cold-blooded murderers in an interrogation room comes off a little cooler when you're wearing killer heels. That's how Stana Katic, as detective Kate Beckett on ABC's Castle, explains her character's aversion to sensible flats. "As an actor, the shoe that I pick is one of the foundational points of what I build as a character," she says. "How I will be able to walk affects my experience, my attitude. It changes everything." That goes for men in real life too. Your shoes make an immediate impression on women—no detective work needed. "What you choose to wear on your feet is very telling," Katic says. Even black laceups are revealing. Use Katic's intuition to determine the style that's right for you.
1.) The Imaginative Guy
He's creative and wears slim-fitting, tailored suits Like the Beatles wore in the '60s. This is someone you'd have a great time with. He might wake up one morning and tell his girlfriend, "We're going to a chateau in France." Dior Homme, $1,000
2.) The Big Star
This guy is a bit of a rocker. He doesn't want to look too much like he cares, but he does care. He's complex and maybe has a dual personality—but definitely has scruff and long hair. Esquivel Shoes, $2,200
3.) The Rugged One
This man could have a ranch in Aspen. He seems like a real all-American guy, but he's also refined. The suede detail tells me he won't be trudging through the snow. He's definitely going to a steakhouse. He might be Kevin Costner. Cole Haan, $190
4.) The Brain
He's a bit of an intellectual, but he also knows how to have fun. He probably likes to speed around in a hunter green British racing car with a tan leather interior. Bally, $1,300
5.) The Cool Boss
There's more to this man than meets the eye. He has to maintain a certain presence in the room and commands respect, but he also has an artistic side. He's going to surprise a woman and take her to the Caribbean for the weekend. Johnston & Murphy, $295
